Ovarian cyst symptoms can vary widely, and many times these cysts
cause no symptoms at all, and many women do not even realize that a
cyst has occurred. Some of these cysts can cause symptoms though,
and these may be mild or severe depending on the size, location,
and type of cysts involved, as well as the pain tolerance of the
individual. Some ovarian cyst symptoms can include pelvic pain or
pain in the lower abdomen, and this pain may come and go, be mild
or severe, or may occur suddenly and be very sharp. When an ovarian
cyst ruptures it can also cause a sudden sharp pain that fades.
Ovarian cyst symptoms can also include periods which are not
regular, fullness and pressure in the pelvis and abdomen, and pain
during menstruation that may be felt in your back.
Other ovarian cyst symptoms may be harder for the doctor to
pinpoint as a cyst. Nausea and vomiting may occur with an ovarian
cyst, especially if the cysts are large. There may also be pain
when you urinate or have a bowel movement, which may lead your
doctor to performing tests to rule out an infection or other
problem besides ovarian cysts. If you have ovarian cysts you may
also experience pelvic pain during or after intercourse, and also
after strenuous physical activity. You may also have spotting and
vaginal pain. Ovarian cysts can become a serious problem,
especially if the cysts are large, are cancerous, or a torsion
occurs, which is where the cyst twists and cuts off the blood
supply. Ovarian cyst symptoms can also include cramping or pain in
your upper thighs. If you suspect you have ovarian cysts, visit
your physician to discuss your symptoms, because medical treatment
and even surgery may be needed.
If you have an ovary cyst, or have symptoms that mean you might,
visit your doctor and discuss your symptoms and options. Most of
these cysts are harmless, even though they can be very painful in
some women.
