Waking state
this is the normal everyday state of awareness, the conscious mind is always working and functioning, you know that you are awake, your intellect is working , you are thinking and reasoning and you are also aware of physical environment, time space, and causality are in full control.
Dream state
This is intermediate state between deep sleep and waking state, it is not a restful state as mental energy is expended, the intellect is not working but remains some awareness of the physical world and regular asanas can help in proper relaxation and deep sleep.
Deep sleep
When the mind is completely relaxed it will go in the state of deep sleep, in which the mind is blank, there is no awareness of yourself as a separate entity, the ego identity does not exist, not even awareness of physical environment and your own being.
