A Unique Halloween Pet Costume: The Jack O'Lantern

Which Halloween pet costume will you choose this year for your pet? Many people are contemplating this very thing right now. Even if our pets were all dressed in the exact same costume such as a jack o' lantern they would all look different. Just like people, there are no two dogs who look exactly alike and as any dog person knows, each dog has their own personality or is it a dogonality? Nonetheless, most dogs are so dedicated to making their owners happy that they will tolerate a Halloween pet costume even if for a quick photo. Envision a black lab in a Halloween pet costume in the design of a jack o'lantern, the orange in the outfit will pop so nicely as it contrasts against his or her black coat. The perfect color for your black dog and depending upon the size and shape of yours, this costume is sure to look unique based on your dog. Other color dogs wearing the Halloween pet costume will also look different from one another, a blonde golden retriever dressed as a jack o'lantern the costume would be equally cute but that coat will be the backdrop for the bright orange of the jack o'lantern costume. The red colored golden retriever or Irish setter or dachshund will look nice as there is never a bad combination of reddish and orange tones, contrary to what many redheads may think. A Jack Russel terrier in a jack o'lantern costume would be filled out very well with their small but muscular frames and just look plain cute because they are a dog breed who seems to enjoy dressing up. Our Heinz 57 or mutts of the world are going to look cute no matter what color or size, because they are the best breed dog of all. No matter what breed or non breed dog you have, all dogs at the same event in the same jack o'lantern costume would really be a cute site. Each looking different just as the pumpkins in the pumpkin patch do, no two are alike. Just like people, pumpkins and dogs are all uniquely different, yet all the same.

Small Dog Costumes - It's About the Accessories

Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. Fashion trends of the most recent years have made accessories as important as the outfit and this includes small dog costumes. Women are once again matching their shoes and handbags to their jewelry and jackets as was done back in earlier times. As we have become a casual society, accessorizing has taken a back seat for many years. One of the most important accessories today in many social circles is a dog. Some owners even enjoy dressing their small dogs in small dog costumes -- not a skimpy bikini but a costume designed especially for the small dog breeds. You know you are a fashion plate when your accessories have accessories. Small dog costumes come in many designs. There are sweaters and hats and shoes and jackets. You can find or create nearly any ensemble you choose from girlie girl to biker chick. For the male dogs there are ascots, vests, tuxedos and sports uniforms. On special occasions such as Halloween, a dog can portray a wide variety of individuals from a cowboy to a favorite movie character. There are also functional small dog costumes such as bathing suits for a trip to the beach or a casual t-shirt for a lazy Saturday. To most dogs, the small dog costumes are worn only on holiday occasions, but many who travel in designer doggie totes prefer to wear clothing on a regular basis. If you have a good amount of small dog costumes, learn to mix and match just as you do when you are experimenting with your own fashion style. For example, wear a jacket over a bikini top and a matching skirt on your beloved furry friend. Who knows, you and your pooch may be the next trendsetters in doggie style. Always remember to keep your pets safe and happy. Do not force him or her to wear something they will not keep on or that will cut off circulation. Comfort is key in any fashion.

Halloween Costumes For Dogs: A Dog's Perspective

The sky was darkening earlier and earlier, and the leaves on the trees were beginning to turn from shades of green to ever so slight hues of yellow, brown and orange. Maxx knew this meant it was that time of year again where the entire family would determine which costume each would wear for Halloween. Of course, this year would be no different from the last; the entire family would want him to wear his adorable hot dog dog costume. After all, it was the Halloween costume for dogs that completely suited him because he was, after all, a dachshund. Sure, it was cute and gained a lot of attention, but this year Maxx wondered what it would be like to be something different. It's not as if Halloween costumes for dogs are hard to find. In fact, they are more popular than ever. Maxx thought about his perfect costume as he lay on the couch staring out the window. He also began to think of all of his canine friends and what they would be this year. Maybe his family would allow him to go out trick or treating in a group this year without them. Perhaps he could even have a Halloween party for his friends. As he dozed off to sleep, he still thought about the perfect costume. What would it be? He thought of objects and people and other animals as he found himself "counting costumes" instead of sheep, and before he knew it, he was having a dream in which all of his friends had found the perfect costume -- except him! His best friend Heinz, a burly German Shepherd, was the first one to show up. He was wearing a police officer's uniform costume, and his owner arrived dressed as the K-9 officer. In the dream, Maxx was so afraid he would not find the perfect costume that he was waiting for the delivery man to drop the costume he had ordered at the door even as his guests arrived at the party. As he was waiting, he saw his good friend Rochelle, a Standard Poodle, arrive as a fairy tale character of some sort. There were witches and warlocks, bats, cats and clowns arriving by the dozens. Most of the costumes had elaborate designs and beautiful colors. Then he saw one small framed beagle arrive in a simple cape and an eye mask. He seemed to know everyone and was very much enjoying himself at this Halloween party. He was not worried how he looked without rhinestones or feathers to make his costume noticeable. He was getting noticed for just being himself in a simple costume. As Maxx awoke to the sounds of the family discussing the costumes and plans, one of them asked Maxx if he would like to be a hot dog dog again this year. As they scratched his belly, he smiled that dog smile and rolled over on his back. He thought happily to himself, "I love that costume." If you are looking to dress your canine friend in a Halloween costume for dogs this year, make sure your pet will wear it and is not upset to do so. If you have a dog who would prefer a simple Halloween dog collar and that is all, allow that to be the costume. Make sure the costume is safe, and watch for loose objects and tight collars. In the excitement of the holiday, it's easy to forget that the most important thing is that the costume is pet friendly and safe. We hope you enjoyed our little story of Halloween from a dog's perspective. For fun tips and awesome dog costume ideas, please take a few moments to read the other articles on our site. And most of all, have a happy and safe Halloween!

Large Dog Costumes: Don't Let Your Large Breed Dog Miss Out On The Fun!

For as many small dogs who enjoy being the center of attention by wearing costumes, large dog costumes have also caught on. We dog owners love treating our beloved canine friends as part of our family. We take them jogging, to the park, in the car, and to our jobs -- and a lot of friend/family gatherings are pet friendly. On some occasions, this includes dressing your dog in a costume or outfit, especially on Halloween. There are many large dog costumes that are so obviously appropriate for the individual breed that it can be a very easy choice. A dalmatian dressed as a firefighter will look very natural and spiffy, especially with red accents on the costume. Who would not look twice at your German Shepherd in a police uniform? Consider too the inconspicuous large dog costumes like Tinkerbell or a pair of little pink bunny pajamas to fit your larger breed female dogs. A cute sailor suit for your large boy dog would be adorable. Whatever costume you choose make sure that it suits your dog's personality and breed. If you have a rowdy dog, a fairy princess is probably not your best pick. Instead try a cheerleader or court jester. A large, reddish-color dog who wears a jack o' lantern costume looks very appealing as the color tends to match their coat. You may also wish to base your dog's costume on what you enjoy. If your hobby is music, create a famous rock star look for your dog. If you want to do something different this year, contact some of your friends with dogs and plan a themed Halloween party for all of you and invite the dogs as well. An example could be a themed Star Wars party. You could designate one owner to be C-3PO and the dog to come as R2-D2. There are many choices in large dog costumes so this can be done with many different themes, including Disney characters, Super Heroes or cartoons. Or consider an old fashioned classic Halloween costume ball with skeletons, devils and witches. Whatever large dog costume you choose for your larger breed dog, make sure the costume is safe and comfortable for him or her. If the dogs prefer to take the costume off after an hour of fun, let them. You can always dress them up again if you need to snap more pictures.

The Hot Dog Dog Costume: A "Hot" Costume Idea!

Dachshund costumes have to be one of the most straight forward costume decisions ever if you are going to ask your dog to wear a costume this year. Hands down the vote is for the hot dog dog costume. The wiener in a bun is one of the cutest costume concepts for dogs that has ever been created. Dachshunds are mostly sweet dogs who with the right owner will agree to most any form of play imaginable -- even wearing a hot dog dog costume. Really, what other choice is there? Well, if the obvious costume isn't for you, there are plenty of other choices. If you would like to be unique in what you dress your hot dog dog up as, here are some fun suggestions. A dachshund in a hamburger costume would be a good display or sarcasm. A dachshund dressed as a St. Bernard with the barrel around the neck would be very cute if you wanted to think extreme, since their poor little legs could not make it up a snowy mountain. This type of costume would be sure to bring lots of laughs and attention. If you are a seamstress and can make your own costume, a hot dog on a stick costume or reference to the wiener mobile could always be used. You would be certain to be admired for your creativity and sense of humor. One important caution: be careful with any dog when dressing him or her in a costume, and be especially sensitive of the dachshund's back. Do not allow them to get out of control in their hot dog dog costume and risk hurting their backs or spines.

The Bumble Bee Dog Costume: What's the Buzz About?

No matter what breed of dog you have, a bumble bee dog costume is always a winning selection. Bees are a very important part of our environment. We need bees to sustain a large part of our food supply. Stay with me on this one. Here is my way of thinking on the matter, and hopefully you will find it as logical as I do. Ok, here we go. All dogs enjoy eating. Whether a mixed breed, a mutt, a full breed, or a large or small breed, it doesn't matter. Because dogs have such healthy appetites, you can be certain your dog will be happy wearing a bumble bee dog costume to support the cause. If dogs could talk, I have little doubt they would want to speak out on the importance of pollination. Even though dogs and bees are not always the best of friends when their paths cross, it is natural they would have a peace about their mutual existence. Can you picture a single dog who would not be a sweet sight in a bumble bee costume? The faces of our dogs are one of the most endearing things on the planet, and the responsibility of making certain that our dogs and our bees are cared for properly is paramount. The bee's environment depends on the sweet smells of flowers and plants to keep them here, and the happy result is that humans and canine companions alike will continue to survive as long as the bees do. So this year no matter what kind of dogs you have, dress them as bees. Let the bees see that there are colonies of us who want them around. Even though we have swatted at them when they are too close to our noses or roses, we know we need one another. Show your support of bees by dressing your dogs in a bumble bee dog costume this year and help spread the word about bees. They are all the buzz.

Tips For Choosing Dog Halloween Costumes

Today's dog owners have most anything and everything available that they may determine their dog needs. Clothing, accessories, designer collars and leads, fancy pet beds, toys and even freshly made biscuits. Dogs of today have no idea how hard it was even 20 years ago to be a dog. Imagine your dog sleeping on a homemade puppy bed made of two side to side bed pillows and an old quilt. So what would this world be without dog Halloween costumes? The decision of what to be is the hardest for many dog owners as they are selecting dog Halloween costumes. Just like with humans, an original or different costume is always desired. This is why it requires some thought. Browse the web, check sale ads and look at the actual items in stores so you can select the perfect costume for your dog this year. Make sure the costume you are considering is safe for your dog. If you are going to be out at night in costume, why not look for a costume with reflective strips built right into the design of it? Choose a collar or lead that lights up, those can even be used other times during the year as you are out with your dog at night. Make sure not only at Halloween but all throughout the year that you and your dog are visible when you are out when the sun is not. The next thing to think about as your selection of costumes is being narrowed to a few final choices is how you will be traveling to your festivities. Will you be getting in and out of a vehicle, on foot or will you be staying home? If you are going to require your dog to wear a hat, it will probably not be really easy for your them to get in and out of the car while wearing it. Since it is most probable that there is no makeup involved in dog Halloween costumes it makes them fairly easy to put on, so remember, you can keep the costume off of your dog until you arrive at your destination. Some of the irony in humor comes out in us so brilliantly in Halloween costumes. Channeling your comedic sense via your furry friend is fun for many dog owners. Would your dog like to be another dog? Like Scooby-Doo? Or maybe a feline like Garfield The Cat is more your idea of the joke being on your dog. Would your dog look adorable in a cat dog Halloween costume? Anything you choose will be fine with your dog as long as they are comfortable in it. It is up to you to ensure their safety. Like humans some dogs do not like to wear all of the garb required on many costumes which could result in behaviors not typical of your dog and cause a problem. If your dog is more simple minded, a cape, necktie or Halloween t-shirt may be the extent of his or her costume.
