Most people expect
City Furniture to be expensive, and in a lot of
cases, they are correct. But you can also easily find NYC
furniture that doesn’t break the bank, particularly if you look
at stores located in surrounding areas. The prices are often much
lower, and many of these places will deliver to the city.

One thing that many people living in the city
must deal with when decorating their home is a lack of square
footage. But what many NYC apartments lack in size, they more
than make up for in style. It’s easy to have a great looking
smaller living space as long as you keep scale and proportion in
mind.
Big pieces of furniture definitely clog up a small room, so you
should look for NYC furniture designs that are scaled down. You
can also avoid a cluttered look in a small room by choosing
pieces with clean and simple lines and forms. Ornate pieces
generally work better in larger rooms.
Multi-function furniture is another great way to cope with a
small living space. Whether you lack a guest room or live in a
studio apartment where your
living room furniture and
bedroom furniture are one and the same, you
can make use of futons, day beds, and convertible sofas that
skillfully blend comfort, style, and functionality. If your small
bedroom must function as a home office, consider a loft bed with
home office space underneath. This is a terrific way to maximize
the use of however many square feet you have to work with.
Before buying, take some time to browse online at websites for
stores you plan to visit, and even those you don’t. Keep an open
mind when browsing furniture styles and you may hit upon a
particular furnishing solution that hadn’t occurred to you
before. Doing your window shopping online also saves time and
allows you to compare prices among several stores.
If you are planning to
purchase a lot of furniture, there’s nothing wrong with negotiating
with furniture dealers. There’s no harm in asking if they would
throw in, say, a couple of accent pillows if you’re buying an
entire living room set. Living in New York, you have more amazing
styles available to you than just about anywhere. Compare prices,
inquire about discounts, and plan carefully, and you can have a
terrific looking NYC home without going over budget

Traditional bedroom sets have been the choice of many people for
centuries, and one of the reasons the styles have held up so well
is that they are beautiful and inviting. For many people,
traditional style bedroom furniture reminds them of comforting
places they’ve been, such as their grandparents’ house, or other
“happy places” that used traditional décor.
Another reason so many people choose traditional bedroom sets is
that they give a bedroom an almost royal sense of elegance and
established luxury. And traditional styles tend not to look dated
or “faddish” after a few years of use. For many people, having
bedroom
furniture that echoes a particular historical period
is personally important, perhaps due to family history or a
favorite era in general history.
Today, you can find traditional bedroom sets in every price range.
Many of them look quite majestic without being too high priced, so
you can have a beautiful, opulent bedroom without breaking the
bank. All your favorite traditional wood finishes are available,
from oak and maple to rich dark cherry or mahogany, to coordinate
well with any type of floor covering and wall color.
If you want to have a traditional or “old world” look to your
bedroom, darker wood finishes tend to look more formal than lighter
finishes. Touches like intricately turned feet on
furniture
and ornate mirror frames give a more traditional look. Hand-carved
headboards are also very traditional looking, as are antique finish
drawer pulls and marble tops on dressers and bedside
tables.
One thing you do have to be careful of when furnishing a room with
traditional bedroom furniture is keeping the scale of the furniture
in line with the scale of the room. Fortunately, you can find
smaller scale furniture that has all the lovely, old-fashioned
touches like intricate drawer hardware and elaborate mirror frames.
Buying large scale
furniture in a traditional style can easily
overwhelm a small bedroom, so it is a good idea to measure
carefully before buying.
You’ll want to finish off your traditional bedroom with classically
styled soft furnishings like chenille bedspreads or floral
comforters, as well as cut-glass lamps and perhaps accents like
old-fashioned vases or an embroidered dresser scarf. There’s
nothing wrong with choosing a more “old world” look for your
bedroom, even if you live in a brand new house! After all, the
styles have lasted so long because they are so appealing to so
many.

Today, we went to visit Linda and to our surprise we found her
flaunting her new
bedroom furniture set. We didn’t even know she
was considering redecorating her bedroom. And when we visited her
last week she didn’t say a word about getting a new bedroom
furniture set. She surely must have known; people don’t just go
and buy bedroom furniture sets on an impulse, even if they are on
sale. And even if they do, I simply can’t imagine Linda walking
into a bedroom furniture sale and buy her self a new bedroom
furniture set without giving it a lot of consideration. Linda is
just not like that.
I think she didn’t tell us simply to see the shock on our faces
as she sprung the new bedroom furniture set on us. That was very
cunning of her, really. But I must say she must have had a good
laugh after we left. I’m sure all our mouths were agape as she
walked us into her bedroom and said, ‘Tada! Look at my
new bedroom furniture set! Isn’t it simply
gorgeous?’ Well. It was honestly very gorgeous, but I for one,
was too shocked to really string a coherent sentence together. I
am sure I made all the right sounds, but I don’t think I said
anything significant at all. Just the effect she was hoping to
get, I suspect. She must be mighty proud of herself.
On the way back from her place, I happened to pass a bedroom
furniture sale. And whether you call me nosy or not, I decided to
look into it to see if I could find a set similar to hers and
find out its real price. I am sure Linda would never tell us the
real price. It’s more like her to let us believe it is really
very expensive, whereas she would have really picked it up for
really cheap at one such bedroom furniture sale. So, I went right
in and started looking at all the bedroom furniture sets to see
if I could not find one like hers. Well, I looked and looked.
There were quite a few
bedroom furniture sets in there, but none that
looked exactly like hers. Now that I think about it, there was
something quite unique about Linda’s bedroom furniture set. But,
I have got to find what it is worth, and I won’t rest easy until
I do
