Breaking News - new book published in Germany today called "The
Cold Sun: Why the Climate Disaster Won't Happen". Also extensive
anti-AGW newspaper coverage, amazing!
Today is quite an amazing day in Germany for those of us trying
to undo the AGW Co2 agenda.
First off a book by Fritz Vahrenholt has been published called 'The
Cold Sun: Why the Climate Disaster Won't Happen'. Fritz a former
chemistry professor and leftist state politician with Sebastian
Luening, who both work at the
renewable energy division of RWE, Germany's
second-biggest utility company. Basically the books says that
Germans should not take such a negative attitude towards
fossil fuels. See the original article
here.
Then to top off the day, the German daily Bild leads with “THE CO2
LIES … pure fear-mongering … should we blindly trust the experts?”
see
here for the original article.

Bicycle Beano Cycling Holidays was set up in 1982 (after working
for Friends of the Earth) as a 'soft environmental campaign' to
actively promote cycling and vegetarianism, and to encourage an
awareness of environmental issues. We believed then, and we believe
now, that green actions speak louder than green words. We were a
green business long before it became fashionable.

Wind power, when put under critical fact based analysis is a
really bad way to provide electrical power.
If you are open minded and prepared to think through a problem
to a fact based solution, then I suggest you have a look at
this presentation on
wind
power and how it is a very inefficient, expensive and
unreliable provider of power.
The presentation goes into a lot of fact based detail to support
the points raised with plenty of real world examples to demonstrate
that wind power, as an alternative to existing base/demand load
production is really bad idea and does not result in any noticeable
improvement in environmental conditions.
I've opened up the comments on this post, so if you wish to discuss
please go ahead.

Frustrated by the lack of good maths teaching aid apps out there,
we just went and wrote one cool maths game..
Maths Bug App
To help my children learn and improve their general maths
ability I wrote an Android app called
Maths Bug that makes maths fun. Similar to the
way you would use a mathematics worksheet to learn subtractions or
do fractions, this app gives you sets of tests to work through on a
given area and keeps track of your progress.
Features:
- 9 different tests to challenge you
- Either type your answer or use multiple choice
- Extensive sound effects and graphics to keep you engaged
- Built in scoring depending on speed, accuracy and difficulty
level
- Inspired by structured learning systems like Kumon
- Built in world wide high score tables per test or overall
- Change the background to suit your taste
- Built in blackboard to help you with working out
- Works equally well on mobiles or tablets.
If you are on an Android device now you can click here to go straight to the market page.

Search both ClimateGate I and II emails with ease.
I have just put together a
ClimateGate FOIA
Grepper which allows you to easily search the emails both from
ClimateGate I and the recent ClimateGate II.
Of course the emails and phone numbers of those involved have been
removed from the results displayed - but you can still search by
them if you know them..

Some more functionality has been added to make it more useful.
We have just updated the
R Value Calculator app with the following new
features:
- Ability to construct a user defined material from a frame and
insulation, you choose the frame type and the insulation and the
calculator will work out the In and Out R Values and its total
depth.
- Energy Conversion calculators for Thermal conductance and
resistance, as well as heat flow rate. Avoid the need to do it by
hand to convert, let the app take the strain.
This is available from
this link or search the market for 'R Value
Calculator'. No change in price, so its even better value.
Enjoy and please let us know what you think.

The Carbon War - how the ABC misrepresent the
political and social situation in Australia around the Carbon Tax.
The Carbon War
The ABC has recently aired a 4 corners program called
The Carbon War.
Basically its a typical ABC Carbon Tax supporting spin laden
program.
First off it focuses solely on the 'organization' behind the anti
Carbon Tax movement, totally ignoring the Say YES and Get Up
organization on the other side.
Secondly it tries to water down our PM's "There will be no carbon
tax under a government I lead" statement before the election by
claiming she was always interested in wanting to deal with
climate change - basically side stepping the whole
point of integrity.
Also they focus on the Co2 pollution per person as being the
highest in the world, yet totally ignore that we have one of the
highest natural Co2
sequestration per person. They also ignore the total
Co2
emissions count and how that pales into
insignificance compared to the likes of China and the USA (which
don't have Carbon Taxes).

Al Gore wants access to your online accounts to spam all your
friends!
According to
wakeup2thelies.com Al Gore wants to use your
Facebook and Twitter accounts to spam all your friends with his
message during his 24 hours of reality campaign.
Apart from the security issues with giving anybody access to your
accounts and the right to post as you there is just something
plainly wrong with letting a 3rd party use your account like this
to spam your friends with something you didn't write.
BTW If you want some fun around this event see the
article on WUWT.

We look at whether the CSIRO is a 'free' research organization or
one whose research is driven by government policy.
CSIRO research, independent of government or not?
This is a really big question and an important one to answer,
is it determines the validity of the research and publications by
the CSIRO that are consumed by the general public and media at
large. If the CSIRO is operated without undue government policy
'directing' then that research can be considered as balanced and
fair in coverage. If on the other hand, the CSIRO has been
constrained in its remit to fit in with current government policy,
then the research, by its nature, is unbalanced and has in effect
turned into a weapon of political spin - something that is a rather
pale imitation of 'free minded' research.
First off, a rather interesting video from Dr Art Raiche, a retired
CSIRO Chief Research Scientist.
So based on what Art has said it seems certainly likely that the
policy of the current government has got into deciding what
research gets done at CSIRO via a formalized management layer. This
is not good for their independent point of view.

Publishing a good paper that goes against the climate change 'consensus' is enough for a journal
editor to resign over - OMG!
Journal editor resigns over anti-AGW paper - oh the horror!
See
this BBC article for the main stream media report on
this.
Notice how they do not really refute the paper on any observed data
driven grounds, rather refer back to the models as being more
'solid' than the observed data from satellites. Basically a smudge
by association...
Jo Anne Nova has a
detailed article on this. Apparently this
particular news piece has gone super viral - perhaps not exactly
what the resignation was meant to cause - talk about shooting
yourself in the foot! As I've said before they are their own worst
enemy.
Also see
here for the paper and a handy
primer on the key points. Enjoy!

We look at what wind turbines need to operate then compare to
available wind in Australia..
Wind Power in Australia
People keep saying that we can use
wind
power via turbines in 'wind farms' to, in part, replace
base load power. We look specifically at what wind
turbines need to operate and at what wind speeds they need to
operate, then we look at where in Australia the wind is available
in general to do this and draw some conclusions.
What does a wind turbine need?
Wind turbines basically need wind with has three
characteristics:
- First off it needs to be of sufficient wind strength to drive
the turbine;
- Secondly the wind needs to blow at a consistent and
continuous basis. Wind that is gusty is of no use to a wind
turbine.
- Thirdly the wind needs to blow from a consistent or slow
changing direction; winds that come from different directions
rapidly are no use as the turbine cannot cut into the wind
quickly enough.
According to
Wind Turbine Characteristics turbines have a
'cut in speed' where the turbine can actually start turning
sufficiently to generate some power. Then there is a point of rated
power output where the wind is sufficient to enable maximum output.
Then beyond that there is a 'cut out speed' where the wind is too
much for the turbine and it needs to stop or risk literally blowing
up.
