Should I Be Concerned About My Already-skinny Stepmother's Unending
Quest To Be Thinner? My stepmom is already thin. People comment on
it all the time with worry in their voices. She's always been thin,
yet she will not be convinced that she doesn't need to lose weight.
In the 15 years I've known her, she has not stopped counting
calories, avoiding carbs, taking up fad
Diets
(South Beach, Atkins, Weight Watchers, Master Cleanse, etc., etc.),
and skipping meals altogether. Our refrigerator contains nothing
but low-fat / fat-free / diet / low-calorie / 0-calorie /
negative-calorie products. Now, just a few days ago, I found
something that really sent up a red flag: a stash of appetite
suppressants and diet pills that fills a kitchen drawer and two
cupboards. It includes: -'Quick Boost' Energy Drink Mix / Dietary
Supplement from Quick Weight Loss Center (24 boxes, each containing
14 units) -'Herbal-Slim Lite' from Quick Weight Loss Center (3
bottles, each containing 180 capsules) -'EFA' Essential Fatty Acid
Dietary Supplement from Quick Loss Weight Center (8 bottles, each
containing 120 capsules) -'Carb Blocker' from Quick Loss Weight
Center (8 bottles, each containing 90 capsules) -'Herbal-Slim
Metabolizer' from Quick Loss Weight Center (4 bottles, each
containing 180 capsules) -'15-Day Weight Loss Cleanse Flush' (1
bottle containing 60 capsules) -'Fücothin' Concentrated Fucoxanthin
(1 bottle containing 60 capsules) -'Zenergize: Burn' Natural Weight
Loss Boost (2 boxes, each containing 10 units) -'Naturalean
Complete: Trim Effects Crave Control Formula' (1 bottle containing
100 capsules) -'Glycotrol' from the Houston Weight Loss Lipo Center
(2 bottles, each containing about 50 pills) -'Slim Shots' Liquid
Appetite Controller (1 box containing 30 shots) I hope my
stepmother is not taking all of these products concurrently. It
appears that she's at least sampled each one, and worked her way
through many of them. A quick glance over these products reveals
that few, if any, are FDA-approved. 'Slim Shots' claims that four
separate studies point to the efficacy of their product, but I
can't find any of these studies published anywhere. The claims of
some of the other products (e.g. Fücothin) seem to be based on
results of preliminary studies that have not yet been replicated.
And although they all claim to be 'all-natural' and
'chemical-free,' they seem to have effects on the body that could
still be dangerous: altering the pancreas' absorption capacity,
changing the body's base metabolic rate, making the body feel full
when it is actually hungry, etc. And isn't GlycoTrol intended for
people with diabetes? I know my stepmother is not diabetic. The
worst part is that my sister and stepsister, both teenagers, have
learned that the compulsive quest for thinness is completely normal
and that taking supplements for weight loss is nothing unusual. My
sister, who is 19 and perfectly thin, berated me today after I
criticized her for taking Sim Shots. She claims to have her own
sizable stash in her room somewhere. Am I making a big deal out of
nothing, or is there cause for legitimate concern here? Is this
grounds for some sort of intervention? Should I talk to my doctor?
I should probably add that I've heard through the family grapevine
that my stepmother has suffered from eating disorders as a teenager
and young woman.

What Are Some
Diets That Work?i really need to
lose weight. being about 150 pounds and only 5'1'', my doctor and
parents both say that i'm overweight and at risk for many diseases.
but i just dont know how to go about losing weight! so i need your
help. *i'd like to start off with a detox diet...to get all the bad
stuff that's been accumulating in my body OUT. what's a good one
that i should try? i've heard about the lemonade diet, the
hollywood diet, etc. but which one?? *after i detox, i'm thinking
about starting the south beach diet. does it really work as well as
the book claims? can i really lose 14 pounds in 2 weeks? *i know
that every good weight loss plan is a combination of diet AND
exercise. i have so much exercise equipment at my house (treadmill,
elliptical, bike, bowflex and
Free weights) but i
dont know where to start. what exercises should i do? how long
should my workouts be? *finally, i'd really like to tone up my
stomach/thighs/butt. there's too much fat/cellulite and its sick.
what exercises will help with this? *is it true that there are
Negative Calorie foods? if so,
what are some examples? *any other tips??? thanks in advance. you
are loved.

Are Apples, Carrots, Strawberries, Etc
Negative
Calories? There are many sites on fad
Diets and I
want to know if this is truth. Because we all know that the
internet is not 100% truthful. I mean on labels you still see 110
calories for a large apple, etc. So are our bodies so inefficient
that when we consume these foods it costs more to digest them than
we obtain from them? Because I am so buying a bag of apples
tomorrow if this is true! I mean I am not going to eat 100 apples a
day just to fit in a
Free slice of cheesecake. I
am more looking for a food that will not add to my
Calorie counter for the day. Hmm, I mean I know it
has calories but what of digestion? For instance it is 40 calories
or 100 calories before hand but after digestion. The net calories
could be negative? Because I know Fiber is undigestable. Which is
why I heard celery was negative. Takes more work to digest than you
gain from it essentially. Again, alot of this is from the internet
and I would love confirmation. Although I think the idea is going
to dust from the sounds of it :( Oh if only there was a fruit that
was at least zero calories :(

Weight Loss Confusion?I'm trying to lose weight.. starting by
takling the new over-the-counter diet pill that reduces fat gram
absorbtion. But now I'm confused on what foods to eat: low fat, low
carb, low sugar, or low calorie? Everything that's low in one seems
to be high in the other. I bought some fat
Free
yogurt thinking this can't be bad, but now I see it has 9 grams of
sugar. Besides the 'negative
Calorie foods' aka
veggies.... What should I eat to lose weight the quickest ??
Thanks! ** also I don't want to use a liquid diet clensing method!
Just old fashioned diet and exercise.

Are We The New Guinea Pigs For Splenda? What Do You Think?i've
never liked splenda myself but after a story my auntie's mom told
me i decided to do a bit of research. where she lives at she has
some family around her, one cousin in particular. well he is a
crazy fan of diet dr. pepper.. or diet coke.. i cant remember
which, but it was diet none the less so it was full of splenda.
anywhoo after many years of excessive drinking of this diet soda he
eventually wasn't able to do anything for himself. at first he
couldn't drive because of his slowed body reactions. it got worse
to the point where he couldn't even get up because he'd fall over
after a few minutes of standing. he had to be taken care of like
one of those old people regressing into infancy.. sorry that's the
best way i can explain it. well the only thing he gave up was the
diet soda. my auntie's mom had been warning him about the stuff for
years. nothing else in his diet changed. he started drinking
regular soda instead and well, he regained all his strength and
went back to living like his old self. so the only thing my
auntie's mom (who has been a nurse her entire life) could find as
the culprit was the splenda in the diet soda. well after the
research i've done it's quite disturbing what i've found. i know
the FDA isn't exactly our friend when it comes to making sure (100%
sure) that the food that makes it to our shelf is safe. food
industries fund much of their research so if the FDA doesn't make
them happy.. then that means no funding. splenda has only had 6
months trials done on it and most of it is in rats. they have had
such things as enlarge livers, shrunken thymus glands and minor
things such as migranes, stomach aches, nausea, etc. I don't like
to down things because I don't like them, I would never do that.
But the craze today with sugar
Free this and less
sugar in that is a fad and trend health conscious people are taking
and running with, and what most disturbs me is all the splenda
being put into kid friendly juices and food products. I don't want
our kids to be the guinea pigs for splenda if it really is as
harmful as it sounds. I'm not putting this up to say 'stop using
splenda' i'm putting this up to ask for everyones input.. Has
anyone else had any or heard of any
Negative side
effects from using splenda? What do you all think of the articles
below on splenda? http://www.steviacafe.net/dangers-of-splenda this
ones kind of long so please at least read splenda side effects, i
think its the most interesting part
http://www.womentowomen.com/healthyweight/splenda.aspx
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2000/12/03/sucralose-testimonials.aspx
the most disturbing part to me is that splenda was discovered in
the 1970's (i believe is the time span) as a pesticide! it comes
from sugar, but isn't considered sugar because it was modified by
adding CHLORINE atoms. people only digest 17% of splenda so that is
why it is considered to have no calories because you don't digest
any of it. but more healthy people can possibly digest more of this
stuff and therefore digest more of the harmful chlorine. i just
want to spread some knowledge and get some input. thank you for
reading. i didn't even realize one of the sites was selling
something. i don't believe sugar is bad for you, but in excess it
can be of course. anything in excess can be harmful in some way.
thank you for all your input, i'm not into substitutions at all so
i wasn't trying to support anything one of these sites was selling,
i was just curious wat others thought. thank you again for the
insight.
