ADD/ADHD/ Behavior Problems Food - Any Good Recommendations
For Website/books On Helpful Diets?My son is 4 yrs old and has
always been rambunctious. Lately, he has been acting out - hitting,
spitting, not listening, just generally being mean to people and
rude. I know much of this could be a phase and testing his limits
but I have seen a correlation between his behavior and certain
foods. 1 example - as a treat he was given an Icee almost
immediately following this treat his behavior went south - jumping
around as if he couldn't control his body, not listening, etc. Does
anyone have any good recommendations for recipes and lists of foods
that are not processed and are dye free? Or a list of the dyes and
other 'bad' stuff to clear free of in food? We are doing what we
can discipline wise so now we want to find other natural ways to
help him focus!

Question About ADD/ ADHD?Is there a test that can detect ADD or
ADHD? Or do doctors simply diagnose by behavior? Also, can anyone
refer me to a website or book that explains red and other
artificial dyes that affect behavior in children? My daughter
sometimes is uncontrollable and I am against the meds they
prescribe for ADD and
Adhd due to the fact that I
have had a drug problem before (4 years sober now). I know that
Aderall is an amphetamine and I really have a problem with that and
would like to try adjusting her
Diet first. Any
help is greatly appreciated. Thanks add: she has been tested with
an IQ of around 140, so she is very smart, in the talented and
gifted program at school and does very well in school as far as
work goes. The problem, more or less, is her behavior if she is NOT
doing some kind of school-related work. She just has a very short
attention span and has trouble following directions, etc. I still
have to keep a hawk's eye on her constantly. For example: I have to
remind her every time we get out of the car not to walk into the
road. It's like she doesn't remember that cars are around or maybe
she is just in lala land. I dont know, but at times I have a very
hard time dealing with this and dont know what to do. Like I said
before, I am against the meds and would like some other avenue to
try and help her. She is so smart and creative and I try to keep
her busy. I just dont know what to do sometimes.

Yet Antidepressants Do Not?I have been diagnosed w/ depression have
been on various medications for the past 10yrs trying to feel
better. I tried exercise, diet, psychiatric counseling, you name
it. I had (have) symptoms of irritability, insomnia intertwined w/

Need IQ Stats, (age, Education, Region, Incarceration, Religion,
Salary, Etc)?I'm looking for data on IQ in regards to: age,
education, region, incarceration, religion, salary, computer usage,
demographics, rural vs city, public vs private schools, educational
attainment, marriage, divorce, children, employment, ADHD, ADD,
ethnicity, sleep patterns, drug usage, diet, television habits,
movie and book preferences, etc, you get the idea. I basically want
as much data as I can get my hands on. Anything IQ related is worth
posting, especially if it is something of note. Important note: I'm
having difficulty finding unbiased and unpolitical information of
this sort on the net. There seems to be an awful lot of dubious
election/IQ stats out there in an effort to attack the other side.

Symptoms of Asperser's include: impaired ability to utilize social
cues such as body language, irony, or other subtext of
communication; restricted eye contact and socialization; limited
range of encyclopedic interests; preservative, odd behaviors;
didactic, verbose, monotone, droning voice; concrete thinking;
over-sensitivity to certain stimuli; and unusual movements. All
these are the symptom of autism and we have the treatment for all

Adhd often prevents children from learning and
socializing well. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
and attention deficit disorder (ADD) refer to a range of problem
behaviors associated with poor attention span. These may include
impulsiveness, restlessness and hyperactivity, as well as
inattentiveness, and often prevent children from learning and
socializing well.
Adhd is sometimes referred to as
hyper kinetic disorder. What are the symptoms of ADHD Attention
difficulties A child must have exhibited at least six of the
following symptoms for at least six months to an extent that is
unusual for their age and level of intelligence. Fails to pay close
attention to detail or makes careless errors during work or play.
Fails to finish tasks or sustain attention in play activities.
Seems not to listen to what is said to him or her. Fails to follow
through instructions or to finish homework or chores (not because
of confrontational behavior or failure to understand instructions).
Disorganized about tasks and activities. Avoids tasks like homework
that require sustained mental effort. Loses things necessary for
certain tasks or activities, such as pencils,
Books or toys. Easily distracted. Forgetful in the
course of daily activities. Hyperactivity A child must have
exhibited at least three of the following symptoms for at least six
months to an extent that is unusual for their age and level of
intelligence. Runs around or excessively climbs over things Unduly
noisy in playing, or has difficulty in engaging in quiet leisure
activities. Leaves seat in classroom or in other situations where
remaining seated is expected. Fidgets with hands or feet or squirms
on seat. Impulsivity At least one of the following symptoms must
have persisted at least for six months to an extent that is unusual
for their age and level of intelligence. Blurts out answers before
the questions have been completed. Fails to wait in lines or await
turns in games or group situations. Interrupts or intrudes on
others, e.g. jump into others conversations or games. Talks
excessively without appropriate response to social restraint.
Pervasiveness of attention difficulties and hyperactivity For a
diagnosis or description of
Adhd a child would be
expected to show the above difficulties in more than one setting,
e.g. at school and at home. Problems are not shown 'at home' but
are very evident when a child goes to a hospital department. This
can happen when parents do not realize that their child's behavior
is out of the normal range (perhaps because they have no other
children, or they have other children who behave similarly). It may
also be because the problems are mild, or because the family has
handled the attention lack at home in such a way that it is not
evident there is a major problem, or because the child is very
young. In those cases it is quite reasonable for parents not to
consider that their child has an attention deficit problem. These
conditions has a good chance to be treated, it will take time and

following symptoms for at least three months to an extent that is

Fails to finish tasks or sustain attention in play activities.
Seems not to listen to what is said to him or her. Fails to follow
through instructions or to finish homework (not because of
confrontational behavior or failure to understand instructions).
Disorganized about tasks and activities. Avoids tasks like homework
that require sustained mental effort. Loses things necessary for
certain tasks or activities, such as pencils,
Books or toys. Easily distracted. Forgetful in the

Adhd Impulsivity At least

Epileptic seizures can cause a child to become drowsy, impairing

ear can make it hard for a child to follow instructions and make
them appear inattentive. Reading problems, making it hard to
complete tasks or follow instructions. Obsessive compulsive
disorder leads to people following strange rituals that preoccupy
their thoughts and distract their attention. Tourette's syndrome
involves repetitive, involuntary jerking movements of the body and
sudden outbursts of noise or swearing. Autism and Asperger's
syndrome often lead to difficulties in understanding and using
language. Prolonged periods of insufficient sleep, causing poor
concentration. Some children may be very active or be easily
distracted or have difficulty concentrating. If these behaviours
are relatively mild, they should not be considered a disorder.
Others difficulties that occurs alongside Autism ADHD ADHD often
occurs alongside other difficulties and is not the sole cause of
problem behavior. Children may exhibit temper tantrums, sleep
disorders, and be clumsy. Other behavioral problems that occur with
Adhd include: confrontational defiant behavior,
which occurs in most of these kids. The child loses their temper,
argues and refuses to comply with adults and deliberately annoys
others. conduct disorders occur in at least 25 per cent of
children. The child may be destructive or show deceitful behavior
such as lying, breaking rules and stealing. specific learning
difficulties, including dyslexia, occur in 25-30 per cent of
children. severe clinical depression occurs in about 30 per cent of
children. anxiety disorders occur in 30 per cent of children. What
causes ADHD? Biological Temperamental, as this contributes to their
attitude and personality. Twins suggest a genetic link to ADHD. In
80-90 per cent of identical twins where one has
Adhd so does the other. Recent research also
suggests there is a greater chance of inheriting the condition from
male relatives such as grandfathers and uncles. Brain injuries due
to birth trauma or pre-birth problems. The brain structures
believed to be linked to the development of
Adhd
are vulnerable to hypoxic damage during birth. The damage is caused
by inadequate oxygen (QI flow) reaching parts of the brain while
blood flow is reduced. Environmental conditions: Family stress.
Educational difficulties. ADHD diagnosis Observations to the
assessment of a child with possible ADHD. There is no single
diagnostic test for
Adhd so different sorts of
information needs to be gathered, such as the following: History of
symptoms The precise nature of the difficulties, when they were
first noticed, in what situations they occur, factors that
exacerbate or relieve them. Medical history Risk factors that could
predispose the child to
Adhd include difficulties
and risks in pregnancy and during birth, for example if the mother
was in poor health, very young or drank alcohol or smoked or had an
extended or complicated labor. Several medical conditions are known
to be associated with ADHD. These include fragile-X syndrome, fetal
alcohol syndrome, G6PD deficiency, phenylketonuria and generalized
resistance to thyroid hormone. Accidents, operations and chronic
medical conditions such as epilepsy, asthma and heart, liver and
kidney disorders all need to be taken in to account. Also of
possible relevance is any medication the child is taking, as well
as any adverse reactions they have had to medication in the past.
Past psychiatric history: Enquiring about any mental health
problems the child has had can help rule out depression or anxiety
being behind the symptoms. Educational history: This means the
level of their ability and what specific difficulties they have,
how they function within their peer group and get on with teachers,
and any behavior difficulties such as suspensions or exclusions.
Family history: The mental and physical health of the child's
parents and other family members can be relevant, particularly
regarding the incidence of
Adhd or depression.
Less then 1% ahs the family history but this is one of the research
data base. Social assessment: The family's social circumstances,
such as housing, poverty, and social support may all have an impact
on the child's behavior. Less then 4 % has this problem but it

How Do I Deal With My Son's Malnutrition Due To Autism?Hi, First
off thank you so much for taking the time to read this because I
know it’s long. The whole family appreciates all your feedback. I
am posting today because I need advice and ideas from parents who
have or are experiencing the dilemma my husband and I face. We have
a 3.8 yr old boy named Justin who was diagnosed with PDD NOS,
Sensory integration dysfunction and
Adhd this past
summer. He is a great kid and one of the happiest ones you’ll ever
meet. He always puts a smile on our face. We knew at the age of 18
months that Justin was atypical. He wouldn't make eye contact,
wouldn’t notice others in the room with him, chewed objects
constantly but refused regular food, spoke mostly gibberish and
used a lot of stims (flapping, spinning in circles, banging his
head and body into things). We battled and are still battling one
of the biggest wars in our lives and that war is trying to get our
son into the world we live in. Justin is now 3.8 yrs old and only
eats either completely pureed or completely solid foods. I wish I
could say that he eats pureed or solid fruits and veggies but if I
did I would be lying. Justin can tolerate about 10 things which we
apply to his
Diet but mainly he’ll eat 7 spoonfuls
of infant cereal for breakfast. He'll have 6 slices of crispy bacon
or 3 slices of fried hard salami for lunch. Finally for dinner
Justin will have 2oz of cooked rice with pureed beans both given
separately and he must always eat in front of the T.V. to distract
him. If he realizes he is eating, even if its food he enjoys that’s
part of his daily routine, he will spit it out or cry until he
throws up. I am very thankful for Pediasure which fills in the
many, many gaps in his diet. The downside is that he will only
drink the Pediasure from a bottle but I have no other choice at
this point. Even with Pediasure being his main source of food
Justin weighs 26lbs at almost 4yrs old. He started receiving Pt,
Ot, feeding therapy, play therapy, speech therapy and special
instruction at 18 months as soon as we had a confirmation of his
delays. His early intervention terminated at age 3 but the Board of
Education in the State of New York has a program called CPSE.
That’s when we finally got an official diagnoses and we have a
little more closure even though honestly this is just the beginning
of a long journey. My son goes to school now and has made
incredible progress in all the fields that were significantly
delayed. With much work Justin now has an approximate 250+ word
vocabulary, makes better eye contact, still uses stims but not as
often but still will not eat. I have tried everything. Well not
everything and this is why I am posting. I've seen numerous
doctors. I've read some books. I am so desperate. I need parents to
tell me how they coped or cope with this problem. My son is
beginning to be dangerously underweight and I am petrified. His
pediatrician doesn’t seem to put as much thought into it as I do
which is why I am in search of a new one. Please help!!!

How Do I Convince A Doctor I Have ADD?I want to pretend I have
ADDfor the simpole fact that I want to get a prescription for
Adderall. My sister has ADD/ADHD and I believe that I have a
concentration problem, I really do, I can never concentrate, it's
not being lazy or bored- I always try. I NEED to concentrate, I
sometimes zone out when people talk to me, can't read
Books because I zone out and I can't follow
intructions - I have to keep repeating to myself to concentrate,so
that I get one little piece of information. Maybe I have it, I
don't know, I don't care if I don't....but I NEED something to help
me concentrate. My
Diet is not a problem, I've
been making sure I have everything I need. This isn't a case of not
being able to concentrate once in a while, it's every day, every
minute.. What are some key things to appear or enhance the symptoms
of ADD? What should I say? Or shouldn't say? What kinds of tests
would they run? Do you think it'd be hard to pull off even if I
didn't have it? I'm 16 (I've notived this my whoel life). No
telling me I'm wrong to be wanting something I might not have. i

Yet More Bad Behaviour From My Child?At home, my son is still doing
as he's told when we tell him. I won't lie and say that he never
tries to argue - but I tend to nip this in the bud and tell him
what will happen if he refuses - such as no tidying up, and I will
simply put anything I find on the floor in the bin (I've done it
before and I'll do it again). Yet we have fun, if he's good, we go
to the beach, go 'jellyfishing' (that's rockpooling to the
non-spongebob fans out there, and no I don't really let him catch
jellyfish! We have 'munchy crunchy snack nights', where on a friday
or Saturday he gets to stay up late and have some of his favourite
snacks. Or we go for walks over the hills to one of his nannas
which he also loves. But school is still a problem, the teacher
maintains that he jumps into the corner, shouts, stands on tables,
plays the class clown for attention. I spoke to the health visitor
and she said a shared reward chart was a good idea - I have one at
home, the teacher has one at school, but this is a book where she
can tick or cross and, if she has time, comment on his behaviour.
For two weeks now, she has not sent his book out, so I have had to
go in and ask about his behaviour, she will say he is naughty, then
she then says she has not got time to discuss it and walks away. I
saw the head today, (acting head, will be his teacher next year)
who then suggested it was his diet. It really isn't, I cook from
scratch and he never gets junk. He is going through a 'raw veg
only' phase, which makes his food a bit weird, but certainly not
bad for you. He said ADHD, but of course, if he had this, he would
not be able to sit on a chair at home. The health visitor is
adamant that they are not helping with his behaviour at the school
- and I am baffled by the conflicting information I have from
everyone. Can anyone offer me advise and help? How do I get his
good behaviour at home to translate to school? As I have already
stated, for the terminally ignorant - he does not do this at home,
and has not been taught to. Oh, and by the way, we have just got
letters saying that we must make appointments and never see
teachers at the end of the day, but she doesn't send his chart out
with him, so what am I meant to do? Leave it for a week against the
Health Visitors advice? Richard, I have been in to see the acting
head, who will also be his teacher when he goes back and had a bit
more help. He wants me to keep a diary when we return of what he
does, eats, and his behaviour. You may not be able to imagine a
teacher saying what my current child's teacher says, but all the
same, it has happened on many occassions, even when I have made
appointments with her. I've told her that he doesn't do it at home,
I feel as if she does not believe me - she will just say 'He is
doing it here'. I am not at school, what on earth am I supposed to
say about that? It is surely more disruptive if I sit in classes
every day, with his baby brother in tow. Thanks Dawn, my son is
incredibly clever they say - but I don't think he's some bored
super genius. He reads well, his maths is superb, but if something
bores him, he does switch off.

Gluten Free? Dairy Free? Help, My Kids Are Going Nuts!!!?So, with
having my first 3 out of 4 children with ADHD, Asperger's, knowing
that at least one of my children is allergic to dairy, plus trying
to deal with other serious issues (not to mention having plenty of

What Can I Take Other Than Ginkgo Biloba?i am currently taking
PAXIL for Panic Disorder,Depression and OCD, and i also take Zanex
if i need it. I know i cant take ginko because of the side effects
with Paxil, I am trying to find something thats SAFE! and that i
can take that will improve memory and concentration. I have
problems mostly with concentration, becoming restless while i am
sitting for long periods of time, being tired. i dont have ADD or
Adhd i know because multiple doctors have told me
i dont. I just want to be able to concentrate better for
school,work and reading. I am currently taking vitamins as well
Multivitamin, B Complex, Omega 3, DMAE, Amino Acid Complex, Vitamin
C. My
Diet is better and im trying to get fit and
going to the gym, so i am trying different things but still have
the same problem. PLEASE HELP! i have read 1 book all the way threw
when i was younger and i want to be able to read, i am tired of
this!
