Beta Fish Care Feeding - Beta Fish Feeding Over The Weekend?I work at a day care and I would like to get the two classes I work for a beta fish for christmas. But I am concerned about feeding on weekends when nobody is there. Will the fish be fine if not fed for the weekend or if extra food is just put into his bowl before we leave? I would hate to have them take them home every weekend so they could be fed. - Beta Fish Care Feeding

Basic Information On Care Of Beta Fish And 5 Gallon Tank?I'm a college student in a dormand my roommate is moving out, so I'm getting a pet. I'm kind of new with fish, so I thought I'd get something simple, a male beta. I'm also getting a 5 gallon tank with bottom filter. Is their anything special I should know about the fish/tank maintenence? (I'm fairly new to fish, I know about Feeding him etc but I've never kept up a tank before.) [ Read More ]

HELP!! How Do I Care For My Beta Fish??I just bought a Beta Fish last week. I put him in a gallon glass Fish bowl with aquarium gravel and some fake plants. I used Jungle brand Start Right with Allanton water conditioner before I put him in. I'm Feeding him Bettamin Tropical Medley Betta food. The problem is the water gets cloudy and has a VERY foul smell the next day after cleaning the bowl, and the Fish won't eat his food. What should I do??? I don't know if the Fish is sick or I'm doing something wrong. [ Read More ]

How Often Should I Clean My Beta Fish's Tank?I'm buying a Beta Fish tomorrow and I have been researching how to take Care of them. I know you are suppose to add or change water 3 times a week.. but how often should you completely remove all the water from the tank (rocks, plants exct) and clean the tank out with soap and water? Also, which plants do you recommend for the Fish to hide in? I always heard peace lilly but have found on the internet that it could actually harm them??? Have you ever put peace lilly in a Beta fish's tank and it hurt them?? also.. I'm not stupid, lol, I know that betas have to have regular food as well (just so I don't get jumped all over for starving my carnivorous Fish by just Feeding it a plant..) Oh and one more thing, when I change the water, how much of the old water should i keep with the fish? thanks [ Read More ]

PLEASE CLICK! Am I Missing Anything With My Beta Care?i am just gonna make a list cause there is a lot i am doing: first of all, he is in a 10 gallon, heated and filtered tank. this tank has a multi-colored gravel (not large enough for him to get his head stuck or anything), 2 types of plants that are growing thicker by the day (java fern and sword plant). i have multiple of both these plants and the swords are intertwining. i am Feeding him hikari Beta bio-gold pellets as a base food, tropical Fish pellets as his secondary food, and freeze dried bloodworms as a treat. occasionally, a bit of a pea as a treat about once a month. also, i might of forgotten to say this, he also has a thermometer that he loves examining and swiming around-says the temp is at 80 degrees. I do 15-25% water changes weekly. he is never tramatized by these. i do these with great care. the water that is put back into the tank is purified by a de-chlorinater made for tropical fish. I gently chase him around the tank with the end (not the actual net part) of... (continued) ...the net that i use when i am changing his water if i ever have to take him out of the water (i haven't had to yet.) i do not have any medication on hand, is there something wrong with this??? should i??? am i missing anything??? thx. p.s. if you have any questions, please include them in your answers and i will respond by the next day, same time. i think i am gonna add 6 neon tetras. yes i know it is big. i wanted the capacity to expand. he has a power filter. according to my book, that is the kind of filter you should get for a beta. How Would I Go About Doing This While On Vacation? How will I Care for my: Beta: Feeding Other ONE fish: Feeding Other ONE fish, LOL:Feeding Hermit crabs: Feeding, Misting Giving water (they get mites easily, I have to try and change the food every day, even though they're my brother's) Hamster: Feeding, Water Filling Oh. I think I'm okay with my hamster and her food, I'll just give her EXTRA food bowls.. but what about water? Do Automatic Fish feeders work? Are there automatic misting things? I think for the Hermit crab food, I will just put extra. BUT WHAT ABOUT THEIR WATER? Oh my gosh, I'm stressed. I am bringing my dogs. If I wasn't bringing my dogs, my mom would have hired the pet sitter. CAN PEOPLE PLEASEEEEE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS? I am going camping for two weeks. I'm leaving in three weeks I would never ever leave my pets. My mom is going to call our usual pet sitter and see if she can do it. Until then, I would like more ideas. [ Read More ]

Hmmm... Fish Problems..?Okay... I've had a few fishes before and I know how to take Care of em' etc. Just a few days ago.. I FOUND a Fish in my old Fish tank, in the garage. I'm guessing it hasn't been fed at all. He has lost him colour and is very small. He is a beta. I cleaned his tank the other day.. with his water REALLY low. I've been Feeding him and taking Care of him. But, I'm worried he might die? What to do think I should do? Oh, yeah I also put that Beta Fish mix remedy in the tank so that maybe it can heal him a bit. And I REALLY want him to live lol. Haha.. I named him Lester.. but, it's pretty odd that I FOUND him there... I mean who could have done that to him? I'm guessing it's been 5 months since he was last taken Care of. My cousin works at a pet store and told me around how long he was left but, she said that SHE couldn't do anything and to just put the mix in the tank and feed and what I would normally do. so yeah... ~Cikeeeee <3 Haha I know Keith.. pretty weird.. I actually laughed when I found him. xD [ Read More ]

How Do You Take Care Of A Fry?I have a small albino cory and she was tilting upwards, and her belly seemed pretty fat. She has a grayish thing on the side of her belly, but I am not sure if that is a gestation mark. She swims around alot still, but I don't know what to do. She is in a ten gallon Fish tank with a julie cory, a Beta fish, a rubberlip plecco, and two ghost shrimp. She feeds on alge wafersand particles left in the gravel. The tank is around 78 and it is filtered. did my corys crossbreed? I have had her for about 4 months, give or take a few weeks. What should I do? I don't have any other place to put her, besids a Fish bowl, or a plastic tubaware box. I wouldn't mind a few babies, but should I just lety the shrimp/fish eat all the eggs? Is she even prego with eggs? [ Read More ]

What Fish To Put In A 55 Gal. And 20 Gal. Tank?I recently purchased a 55 gallon tank and a 20 gallon tank. Both will be for freshwater fish. And will be cycled for about 2-3 months before putting any Fish into the aquarium. The cycle I've usually done was the 'feeding fishfood' method. This is the method where you'd 'feed' the tank about every 12 hours, so it can create the 'good' bacteria, to cycle the tank. That however, takes quite awhile to get the nitrate levels to show up and be safe for the fish. I was told to try the Tetra SafeStart method. But was also told to 'feed' it amonia for the cycling period. Has anyone tried this, if so, any input would be great. Okay... Now onto the other questions... I've had previous fish... Well 2 to be exact. I had a common goldfish that is still alive today, and he's about 10 yrs. old. He is close to 14' in length, and lives in a 75 gal. tank with my ma, as I had left the tank when leaving awhile ago. The Beta still lives with me in a 10 gal. filtered/heated tank. And he's about 8 yrs. (was purchased at full maturity, so he might be a bit older. He's been with me since June of 2001.) I was wondering should I get another goldfish or two to put in the 55 gal. tank. However, I dont think it would be that great to put two Fish that get over a foot long in that big of a tank. The 75 gal. would be more suitable. But I've got no room for that big of a tank. SO I was wondering whats a good type of Fish should I get for the 55 gal. and 20 gal. tank? Im looking for 'larger' fish, but not too large that I can keep at-least 2-3 in the tank. I like Fish that have great personalities, but are more on the peaceful side. I was thinking about an Oscar for the larger tank. But I wouldnt be able to have anything else in the tank. And I kind of dont want the Oscar to have to be in that small of a tank. I also need ideas for the 20 gal. tank. I dont really Care for 'schooling' fish, such as the smaller Danio's. But would settle for larger ones such as barbs, but have heard that they're aggressive with eachother as-well as other Fish in the tank. I'd like to get Chichlids, but have heard those are aggressive as-well. SO any input or information anyone could give me would be GREATLY appreciated. Any information you might need, just let me know. [ Read More ]

Is This Normal To Be This Upset?A girl who works next to me was telling me how she was moving to flordia and didnt want to take her 2 year old Beta Fish with her, bc as she put it *it should be dead by now* So she stoped Feeding it and cleaning it in order to just kill it... I felt SO bad by this bc I Care more about animals then I do about people sometimes! so I told her to stop trying to kill it and just give it to me. She brought it to work in a filthy bowl I took it home and cleaned the bowl and fed the fish...but a few days later it was dead. Part of me feels like it was her fault, part of me feels like it was old age, and part of me feels like it was my fault! I know it was only a Fish and I didnt have it for very long but I cried when I had to flush him! I can't STAND to see dead animals even if it is a dead fish... My question is... do I tell her it died? [ Read More ]

How Long Should I Leave My Tank To Right Itself?OK -Massive saga, to make it short I used to keep female betas and a few cat Fish in a 50 ltr tank...but one evening worried the tank was a touch too hot I turned it down, only to find the next day I had turned it up and boiled my little loves ;( after much crying I decided to get guppies to see how that was. Disaster, they had cotton mouth and red fungus when they arrived and were so difficult to treat. I ended up with three survivors, and I took them back to the shop after a month...I want to just have a male beta, like in my other 30 ltr tank (Butch) a big strong blue male, who shares with a congo frog - though he does have a go at the frog at Feeding time but Sr Frog does not Care and ignores him... So my question is; After having a tank with all this bacterial infection in there - how long shall I leave the tank before getting this new fish, and does anyone have any advice? Cheers :) Bleach? are you sure? have you done this sucessfully? [ Read More ]
