Searching For An Online Accounting/Bookkeeping Course That I Can Learn At Home.?I have been working in the 'Accounting/Bookkeeping' field for about 5 years now. I have never really went to school for it, its al lbeen hadns on training. I would like to brush up on my skills (the book way), so I was thinking I could purchase soem software that I could refresh and teach myself at home. I can not afford to go to school and dont have the time to the schools locations. I am a single mother and I need to be able to keep income coming in. I have a job now (2 years), but lately I have been feeling as though I could be more helpful if I knew the fundimentals of accounting. I know it in 'lay man' terms but not book terms........ Bookkeeping Classes A Good Idea For An Accounting Major?I have gone back to school to get my degree in Accounting and then go on to sit for the CPA. I will have my bachlors degree in December and will continue taking the classes I need. I am thinking about getting a job now, I have a degree in Bus Admin and 10 years experience in administation. I have been at home with my kids for six years now. I applyed for a Bookkeeping job with my local school district and failed the ledger test!!! I have never done bank reconciliations before and I have never used Peachtree. I am thinking about enrolling in either an Online or local technycal school Bookkeeping course to learn all this stuff, but I have some froends saying that I would be going backwards and that I should just wait to start working when I have my Accounting degree. Should I Take These Courses?i am about to be a college freshmen and i am planning to take 7 Courses this fall semester. I went Online to my community college's website and i saw the program requirements and course descriptions in my major which is administrative assistant under office technology. I saw the requirements for an associate's degree and the classes it recommends i take are business english, intro to microcomputers,intermediate computer keyboarding,and a ge course from social and behavioral sciences and i chose intro to sociology, and also an elective which i chose bookkeeping. In addition to these Courses i have to take the Courses that i scored in my placement assesment test which are arithmetic fundamentals (math that prepares you for college level math but doesn't count for college credit, i have to take three course before i get to college level) also i have to take freshmen composition. do you think this sounds right or is too much? What School Can I Go To To For Bookkeeping?I live in Lakewood, Ohio which if you don't know is basically inside of Cleveland, Ohio. I would like to switch careers to become a bookkeeper. I was really good with math in high school and I have a high attention to detail. I've been in data entry the last few years and i'd like to work in the accounting department. I do not have any Bookkeeping experience and no certifications that apply for this field. I would like to know what schools I can attend to get a certification and what kind of Courses would I take. I've seen on this site other people said there are classes that are 4 months long but the school is too far. I'd rather go to a campus than an Online school. Are there any colleges that offer Bookkeeping certifications in surrounding area of Lakewood? Anything in Rocky River? Westlake? West Side Of Cleveland? Downtown Cleveland? Parma?
