A couple of entertaining commercials from Volkswagen popped up in the world of viral video this month, both of them claiming to be real-life experiments in social engineering. I like the videos a whole bunch as they have a “candid camera” feel and also give you a bit of a warm fuzzy inside. Are we [...]

Ahoy, mateys. For those of you who are unaware, Saturday, September 19 is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Which is, of course, the coolest holiday since Christmas. Maybe it's even cooler--because Santa Claus is awesome and all, but he's not as awesome as Captain Jack Sparrow, is he?

And for you landlubbers who don't believe this amazing if unnecessary holiday actually exists, click Date Published: Sep 18, 2009 - 8:18 pm

Should Kevin and Jill Heinz ever file for a divorce, the breakup proceedings can be just as hip-hop and grandiose as their wedding procession that made its rounds via a viral video a few weeks ago.

Below are several of the most memorable moments from Michael Jackson's memorial...

Magic Johnson's humorous story about how he was shocked to discover that a huge star like Michael Jackson enjoyed Kentucky Fried Chicken gave fans an insider's glimpse into an unknowable icon.

Brooke Shields, a very good friend of Jackson's, shared some of her favorite memories. Ms. Shields choked up a bit at the end of her speech, giving a voice to many in the audience and at home who must have felt the same way.

The Reverend Al Sharpton credited Jackson with demolishing racial barriers. Sharpton also called on fans to not focus on the scars of Jackson's career, but to focus on the journey. To Jackson's kids he said: "There wasn't nothing strange about your daddy."

You wouldn't have expected a 12-year-old from the UK to make a huge impression at the memorial service, but Shaheen Jafargholi's performance of Jackson's "Who's Loving You" inspired a racoucus round of applause.

Jennifer Hudson is no stranger to tragedy. Perhaps that's why her performance of "Will You Be There" came across as one of the memorial's most special moments.

Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson performed MJ's favorite song: "Smile." The lyrics were especially poignant: "Smile, what's the use of crying/You'll find that life is still worthwhile/If you just smile."

Perhaps the most touching moment came at the very end of the memorial when Michael's daughter, Paris, expressed her love for her late father.

The latest "Single Ladies" parody is the strangest yet. It's by Joe Jonas, and he's wearing a leotard even more revealing than Beyonce's.

TheBrunohaslanded

On Sunday night, when Sacha Baron Cohen's alter-ego Bruno descended from the rafters and landed fanny-first on Eminem's head, most folks figured that the rapper's rage was the real deal. Suckers! Not only was Eminem in on the joke, he and Baron Cohen rehearsed it to make sure it would all go according to plan.

Suspicions over the legitimacy of "butt-gate" had been brewing for days, but it wasn't until a writer for the MTV Movie Awards confessed that we all knew for sure. On his blog, head writer Scott Aukerman wrote that the incident was staged. "They rehearsed it at dress (rehearsal) and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show." Wow. Let it never be said that Eminem isn't a team player.

According to the New York Daily News, Eminem wasn't Baron Cohen's first choice for the joke. That honor, which was tragically declined, went to Paris Hilton. Just imagine the buzz had that happened. Still, Eminem did a great job of selling the stunt considering he "may not have been briefed on just how naked Baron Cohen's flying 'Bruno' would be when he agreed."  What a pro.

Even before the writer's admission that the crash landing was planned, the searches had a suspicious slant. Throughout Monday, lookups on "was the eminem bruno stunt staged" and "eminem bruno joke" posted strong gains. Blogs, like this one from the Chicago Tribune, raised the possibility that the audience had just been played.

Now that the joke has been confirmed, queries are surging on "bruno eminem fake stunt." We'd say we feel used, but we're too busy laughing.

NewMoonstars

Other than Sacha Baron Cohen landing fanny-first on an understandably agitated Eminem, the biggest story of MTV's Movie Awards had to be the trailer for "New Moon" (aka "Twilight 2"). The much anticipated clip premiered during the ceremony and set off a firestorm of searches.

Throughout Sunday evening and well into Monday, lookups for "New Moon trailer" soared 388% until it landed among our top 100 overall queries. Related searches on "official new moon trailer" (+451%) posted huge gains as well. Why the need to search on the word "official"? Dedicated (some might say "obsessed") fans have created their own pseudo-trailers to "New Moon" and posted them online. While their efforts are no doubt appreciated, Twi-hards want to see the real deal.

As is often the case on Yahoo!, star Robert Pattinson was absolutely huge in the Search box. Queries on the brooding heartthrob were up 30% — more impressive than it sounds considering that he's perpetually popular. Also seeing a surge following the MTV gala: "are robert pattinson and kristin stewart dating?". Everything we've read says they're just good friends. Still, Twi-hards can dream, can't they?
