We all know Fall is the beginning of the holiday season; and Thanksgiving is one of the most cherished holidays that we celebrate. Everyone wants to put together a gorgeous dinner on this day, but there is a lot of work involved. However, you do not have to run yourself ragged to throw the perfect Thanksgiving dinner for your loved ones. Before you do anything, do this: Planning is key. You must make sure that you take time to work out the details well in advance of the actual dinner. You will want to plan out the menu that you are planning to serve. From there you will need to craft your shopping list so that you can head to the grocery about three days before Thanksgiving. You will want to make sure to hit the store about then so that you can avoid the last minute holiday crowds. Additionally, you will want to plan out your cooking process for Thanksgiving day. You should pace yourself during this long day in the kitchen so that you are not exhausted by the time you serve dinner. Preparation is number two. In addition to shopping ahead of time, you can also try to make some of the food ahead of time. Try to prepare as much as you can a day or two ahead of the holiday. This may include chopping vegetables, meats and cheeses; anything that you can do beforehand will really help you to make sure that Thanksgiving Day goes smoothly. Where is that? You should double check all of your kitchen supplies to be sure that you have everything on hand that you need. Nothing is worse than discovering in the midst of cooking that you do not have some crucial item. For instance, you would want to get your turkey all ready for the oven only to realize that you have nothing to cook it in. You will want to double check your dinnerware, glassware and flatware. Be sure that you have enough for each of your guests so that no one is left out at the dinner table. While doing this, keep a “to do” list on hand of what you need to get replaced before Thanksgiving. This list will help you to stay organized and avoid forgetting anything important. Beyond the food You must also spend a little time getting your home decorated for the holiday. As the host or hostess, it is you who will set the stage for an atmosphere of festivity and fun. You do not have to break the bank, but adding a few simple touches can help to create the right atmosphere. By selecting some candles in holiday colors like gold, green and orange you can add some elegance and sparkle. Additionally, you might want to create a simple fall centerpiece like a lovely basket filled with pine cones and fragrant cinnamon sticks. Be creative and have fun with your Thanksgiving decor. Let’s all be thankful The most important thing about throwing the perfect Thanksgiving dinner is to remember that it is about giving thanks. If you put together your event with love and surround yourself with people important to you then you are sure to have a holiday you and your guests will remember for years to come. I couldn’t have said it any better. I wish all of you a safe hoiday. And enjoy your family. Time passes so quickly. Danielle Brooks is a freelance writer who loves to entertain. Thanksgiving can be tasty if you know how to cook it. Here’s some help. I can do more if you want them.As history tells us…At one time there was an era of friendship between the Pilgrim fathers and their Indian neighbors. As far back as March 16, 1621, approximately three months after the Mayflower landed on the shores of Plymouth, Massachusetts an era began. An Indian named Samoset called out and welcomed Englishmen to their land. In the territory of Massasoit the Pilgrims settled in the Wampanoag Confederacy. The Indians and the Pilgrims sat down with a bilingual Patuxet named Squanto who acted as an interpreter. A treaty was reached and peace lasted 40 years. Squanto was an advisor for the Pilgrims. He would guide them on trading expeditions, and would teach them to forage for food and medicines. He showed them how to fish in nearby streams, plant corn and to fertilize the ground with freshly caught fish. And they ate As Autumn came there came a celebration for the bounty that God provided. The Pilgrims prepared a traditional English harvest festival. They invited Massasoit who came with 90 hungry men and five newly killed deer. For three days in October, the Indians and Pilgrims would join together and enjoy their celebration. They ate venison, roast duck, roast goose, wild turkey, corn bread, pumpkin, squash, berries, maple sugar, and wild plums. At this time it seemed that the harmony between the Native people and the new settlers would last forever. In short,… The tradition we know as Thanksgiving began simply as native Americans welcoming newcomers to a new land and extending their friendship and food. God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving! We’re talking about recipes we make with our families with a little history thrown in. If you’re in Houston Thanksgiving is at my place. As you know Thanksgiving is a great time of year and many friends and families gather to spend time with each other and to remember all the fun thing they have done over the past year and through their lives. Thanksgiving can really be a great time, and crafting for the holiday can also be fun and exciting for the whole family. Here are some ideas for you to make your Thanksgiving Day decorations fun and exciting. If you have kids Thanksgiving can really be a great time for the family to come together even before the cooking and preparation begin to spend time with each other and to create all the decorations and crafts that will be around the house for the season and holiday. Take some time to sit down as a family and to make some homemade crafts to have a great time together and to pass the preparation time for Thanksgiving together. Kids can get involved with making crafts and participating here and there for the whole event. There will be some things they won’t be able to help with and others that you will want to buy or make on your own, but spending time with them can really be a lot of fun and make things go faster. I’ve tried this and it works. I’m so grateful for this advice. Thanks. The focal point of the table The Thanksgiving dinner table is one of the most important decorations for the day and you can get everyone involved. The centerpiece of the table is a focal point of the table and can present the theme of the décor and tie everything from the rest of the house together. This centerpiece can be a classic cornucopia that you make out of seasonal vegetables and gourds or can even be a small collection of leaves and twigs that you collect outside. You can even extend the theme and have photos or pictures of things you are thankful for in the center of the table and think of the great times you have had as a family. You can make a whimsical theme for the dinner table by having turkey napkin holders made from toilet paper rolls and construction paper. You can also make finger print turkey place cards with each guests name on them. Make these in advance or even make them as part of the pre-dinner activities that people can then take home with them as keepsakes. You can also create small pinecone turkeys by adding a pipe cleaner for the neck and head and feathers for the turkey tail in the pinecone. These crafts can all be very fun and exciting to make and can be part of the build up to the Thanksgiving Day holiday and feast you will be having with family and friends. Impress the neighbors Decorating outdoors can also be fun for the whole family especially if you are going to need leaves and twigs for the decorations. Depending on how old the children are in your home, you can involve them to different degrees in the planning and creation process. Take them out on outing to collect leaves and branches that can be used to decorate the front of the house or to bring inside for the décor and crafts as well. This can really be fun to get out in nature to find all these things and to explore outdoors at the same time. Take photos of what is happening and have them printed so everyone can remember how much fun it was to create all the crafts. If you have a garden, then everyone can get involved with harvesting the pumpkins and gourds that will be used in the decorations as well. If you don’t have access to a garden or didn’t grow these types of things, then you can go to the local pumpkin patch and look for some on another outing. Never done this before but I think this Thanksgiving I’ll give it a try. My next door neighbors go all out for Christmas, so I’ll prelude their oncor with a traditional Thanksgiving patch outside.
