Any
Horse Training
Books You Can Recommend?I'm about to
finish 'Storey's Guide to
Training Horses' by
Heather Smith Thomas. It was okay, but there are some holes in the
information. And she is extremely repetitive in common sense
advice. Is there anything you can recommend? I want a
Book by an author that KNOWS how a
Horse thinks and reacts. And, I don't want a
Book that is primarily on
Training in different styles of riding. I'll be
starting my
Horse myself in all areas of training.
Thanks! *DVD recommendations welcome, too!*

Can You Recommend Any Good
Horse
Training
Books/videos?I'm starting a job in a few
months as the head riding instructor and trainer at a stable in my
home town. Before you ask, I DO have a degree in equestrian
studies, and I DO have experience working with and
Training horses as well as teaching riding
lessons. However, I really have nothing to do between now and then.
I need something to pass the time. SO, my question is this: Can you
recommend any good
Horse
Training Books and
videos to read/watch to help pass the time? Or any interesting
books/videos relating to horses and riding in general? Please be
specific. Don't just say '_____ trainer does really good stuff, you
should check them out!' Try to give the name of a particular
Book or video if you can. Also, I'm looking for
something beyond what I expect are going to be typical responses to
this (i.e. Parelli, John Lyons, etc... these aren't the only
trainers in the world, you know!!!!!!) Hopefully I'll get some
interesting and unique answers! More info: I do mostly western
riding, and some dressage. The lessons I'll be teaching will mostly
be beginner to intermediate western horsemanship lessons, possibly
some advanced students depending on the clients I'm able to get,
but I'd also like to broaden my horizons in my dressage riding as
well so I can at least teach some basic beginner to intermediate
dressage as well. As for the
Horse training, it'll
most likely be pretty basic stuff - starting horses under saddle,
correcting behavioral issues like bucking, etc. And possibly
teaching a few horses the basics of reining. I'm glad to see so
many responses already, keep 'em coming, getting a lot of good info
here!

Can You Suggest Any
Horse
Training Books?I am
working with my new
Horse (my first) and it seems
to me that her basic
Training was a bit rushed.
She can and loves to jump, but resists the bit, won't bend into
circles and rushes her transitions like crazy (did you know it was
possible to rise to the trot 142 times per minute!!). She also
leans on the bit when we are out of the arena when I ask for a
halt. She is a highly strung TB so I am working on relaxing her,
but I can only afford to work with my trainer once per month, so I
need more to go on. Does any have any great books/ DVDs that work
on
Training a green horse. I would like one with
exercise examples preferably. Thank you!

Could You Recommend Some Good Books On
Horse
Training (Englisih)? My daughter needs to teach her
Horse such things as standing while being mounted,
getting on the bit, and jumping (he has done the slightest little
bit of poles and 2' jumps). What books can you recommend? My
daughter has been riding hunter/jumper for the last 6 years. The
Horse is not green, but he has primarily been an
English pleasure
Horse and needs to be 'polished'.
Thanks for the recommendation of 'The
Horse
Whisperer', but I couldn't get past the raunchy language on the
first page. I'll think I'll have to pass on letting my daughter
read it. lol

What Is A Good

Buy?I am searching for a few good books to read about understanding
horses. I would like to learn
Horse phychology,

Training and
understanding. If possible, I'd love to find a
Book that would help one understand horses on a
more spiritual level. I want to be able to connect with my horses.
Let me know thanx! That'd be awesome!

What Are Some Really Good
Horse
Training Books?I want my
Horse to have a western head set and one for
English. What books or types of tack will come to use for me? And I
also Want to teach him how to jump.. I also need him to side step
and pivot on haunches. Also.. I have been working with him since
July [when i got him] but he still won't walk with me [by my side]
and he walks SUPER slow! any help? I also need him to trot for me
while leading. I have owned horses in the past but not one this
stubborn! The trainer said Sam is really smart and has a good head
on him, is it just me? Sam is a Trakehner Paint cross... I was just
thinking.. His sires lineage is really well with english riding his
dam idk about her lineage. So I will stick with the english
Training and get another
Horse
for western. But I will still need him for halter showmanship..

ground work and riding? Thanks!!! Oh yeah - sorry I didnt mention
it....i rode Western in gymkhanas. And Ponygirl - by 'finished' i
mean knowing all the basics that a good
Horse
should and carrying them out, being well mannered and polite and
able to respond to light cues by the rider.i know a
Horse is never done learning, it's just a general
term i use. Hope that clears it up!! =)

How Much
Horse Training?Hi! I am interested in
purchasing a
Horse from a local stable. I haven't
gotten a chance to ride him yet. They just recently told me he had
4 months of
Training when he was 3. He is now 7. I
would like to use this beautiful boy as a barrel racer, the owner
said that would definitely be one of his strong suits. I have a
little bit of riding experience, (I am riding western) And i have
been around horses a lot. I would probably rate my riding a 4 out
of 10. Although i CAN gallop, canter, lope, whatever you want to
call it :) Anyways, how much more
Training would
he need? a lot? professional training? Im not sure what is
considered an 'adequate amount' of
Training for a
barrel horse, or a western pleasure
Horse in
general. All answers and help are appreciated. If you could please
just state your sources, (i.e. own a horse, barrel racer,
Horse book, etc.) Thank you all! Im sorry, I
forgot to add one thing. How much would the amount of
Training I do or Dont need cost? Thanks! and this
is all the information I have on this certain
Horse at the time, If I figure out more,. (like if
he is still being ridden?) Then i will post it. Thanks Again!
