Can You Recommend Any Good Horse Training Books/videos?I'm starting a job in a few months as the head riding instructor and trainer at a stable in my home town. Before you ask, I DO have a degree in equestrian studies, and I DO have experience working with and Training horses as well as teaching riding lessons. However, I really have nothing to do between now and then. I need something to pass the time. SO, my question is this: Can you recommend any good Horse Training books and Videos to read/watch to help pass the time? Or any interesting books/videos relating to horses and riding in general? Please be specific. Don't just say '_____ trainer does really good stuff, you should check them out!' Try to give the name of a particular book or video if you can. Also, I'm looking for something beyond what I expect are going to be typical responses to this (i.e. Parelli, John Lyons, etc... these aren't the only trainers in the world, you know!!!!!!) Hopefully I'll get some interesting and unique answers! More info: I do mostly western riding, and some dressage. The lessons I'll be teaching will mostly be beginner to intermediate western horsemanship lessons, possibly some advanced students depending on the clients I'm able to get, but I'd also like to broaden my horizons in my dressage riding as well so I can at least teach some basic beginner to intermediate dressage as well. As for the Horse training, it'll most likely be pretty basic stuff - starting horses under saddle, correcting behavioral issues like bucking, etc. And possibly teaching a few horses the basics of reining. How Can I Learn More About Horse Training?I've read a lot and watched many Videos and Training in person, although I've never had much experience with actual training. So while I'm very knowledgeable I haven't put it into practice yet. Right now i definitely don't feel prepared to buy and train my own horse. Are there other ways I cant get hands-on? At What Age Can A Horse.....(training Question)?Again with a foal... Has Anyone Used The Stacey Westfall Training Videos?I was thinking of buying them, I'm always looking to improve my Training skills. I was just wondering what people thought of them and if they are worth buying. I was going to buy all 5 videos, including the brideless riding, basic body control, basic ground work, starting young horses, and teaching your Horse to bow. I was wondering if she goes into teaching things like rollback, spins, and sliding stops, or if she only covers the very basics. Also, what you thought of the Videos and if they helped you. It would be great to hear people's opinions. I should clarify that i have been riding all my life, and I already train. i'm just looking to expand my knowledge. Is It Bad For A Horse To Jump With A Western Saddle ?My Appendix Quarter Horse was trained for jumping before I got him, over the past 2 months I 've been reading and watching a lot of instructional Videos on jumping horses. Last weekend I set up a two foot high single rail and I tried jumping (after a lunging exercises over small obstacle). My Horse cleared it with no problem (I was told he jumped around 3-4 feet high) and I got to admit I have a hole new respect for the sport, it was the greatest feeling I have ever experienced on a horse. If I continue with this I do plan on getting the proper saddle. I just want to know if I use my western saddle for a while will I hurt is back [ Read More ]
