Parelli Horse Training Method
Parelli Horse
Training Method
Has Anyone Ever Had A
Horse Trained By
Parelli Or Lyons Etc.
Method Over
A Period Of A Few Hours?Is that
Horse actually
trained or does he or she go back to what they were before?? It
seems an auful lot for either a
Horse or a human
for that matter to absorb in such a short period of time

Her
Training And Faux
Parelli
Set?The
Horse that I'm buying has finished Lvl.1
Parelli. I know nothing about the
Parelli method,
much less
Training or what owning a
Parelli Horse would mean. Can you
break to down to me what she's covered, and what I'll need? I
looked into the
Parelli sight and was going to buy
his lessons and equipment, but it is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. In
total, the actual
Horse I'm BUYING isn't as much
as it is! So I'll need a faux set, if I have to continue her
Parelli training. What is needed in that? And, how
do you do it, exactly? Regardless of what you think about the
Parelli method, this
Horse has
already completed lvl. 1 and knows nothing else. Since I, too, know
nothing else, we're stuck with it. And, frankly, it seems like a
beautiful, healthy way to connect with your horse. It's just on the
expensive side. So, what to do? By the way, please don't suggest
that I take her to a trainer. I don't have the money. This needs to
be on my own. NO bashing parelli, I need ANSWERS! She's 6 years
old. She's been under training, she said, for over a year. She's
incredibly gentle and willing - she said the
Parelli Method made her that way.
What I want is a
Horse who knows how to do the
basic practicals: walk, trot, canter, gallop, turn large circles,
small circles, stop, go. In the future I've looked into jumping. So
what to do? What
Training does she need that I can
do (I've been riding since I was 9, had English and Western
training)?

Alternative
Horse Training
Methods? Your Take?My main problem with my mare is girthiness! I
have always traditionally been told to punish her physically for
this behavior and smack her, but I have always felt a little guilty
for punishing her for fear or discomfort and have not seen a huge
improvement with this method. Pat Parelli's
Method
is to treat your
Horse when behaving badly during
girthing, which I totally understand! This teaches them that this
experience is not one to dread, it isn't something to hate you for
and OMG (gAsP) it may even be... GOOD???!! TO GIRTH! Haha But I do
have concerns that I might accidentally reinforce the bad
behavior... I am not sure of how a
Horse might
respond to this and how my girl might capacitate this new approach:
1. She may just generalize the situation of girthing = good because
I get treats or 2. She will focus on the specific behavior I am
addressing and think Nipping, and pinning my ears when girthing =
treats! Has anyone tried this method? How did it work for you and
even if not how do you think a
Horse might
respond? (you may choose 1 or 2 if you don't care to go into
detail!) In situations of acting out or defiance punishment is the
best thing but in acts of fear or discomfort one should just
reassure the
Horse and take things more slowly -
this is why it is important to know your
Horse
well and know where they are coming from when they disobey. My
Horse is acting out of dislike or fear - I am just
unsure of how she will respond to different ways I have chosen to
respond to it Either ignoring it or rewarding it Girthing is scary
because horses have a natural fear of confinement and are
claustrophobic so something tightening around they're lungs similar
to a tight turtleneck (I canNOT wear them - I am claustrophobic) is
naturally scary but can become ACCEPTABLE at best. Um I know of
methods to fix this issue I was really looking for actual
experience and opinions of
Parelli not
explanations of
Parelli - I am fully aware of the
practice and what it involves... the treats are just a focal point
for the beginning of reward
Training which phases
out to be more simple rewards like petting. For some of you
sticking your noses up in the air about a little information you
have acquired about this ONE
Method that is
available to everyone please stop because it isn't helpful to me
it's just aggravating

What Is The Deal With Parelli?ok just a short rant. i am sick and
tired of everyone bashing parelli! i get that some of the stuff is
way expensive and all but jeez! you guys keep bashing his
Training methods. have you forgotten that there is
no one
Training Method that works
perfectly for every horse? some horses need the
Parelli method, others do fine without it.i have
seen some great horses that were
Parelli trained.
just because some of you dont like natural horsemanship??
personally, i dont use the whole
Parelli method. i
take some things and mix it with my own knowledge and that which i
have learned from other trainers. sometimes i play the games, i
dont think they are necessary but sometimes it is fun to play with
my horse! but i like the fact that i can point to the trailer and
my filly will load up. and i think the carrot stick is great, my
filly didnt respond to a lunge whip. so please, can we use this
thing for what it is for, not bashing trainers but getting
intelligent information on horses? sorry about my rant :)

Horse
Training Methods?I know that tonight we have
all had our debates and sides on NH training, My question is That
the lines are well defined and I want to know from people If you
feel a trainer who is not publicly advertising only doing NH the
Parelli way is a bad or abusive trainer? Ive heard
comments referring to 'if not NH then they use intimidation, pain,
and fear to accomplish there goals' Do people really believe
this???? If so how do you group all successful and winning trainers
into that group? I feel really insulted to be classified as a 'bad
trainer' by you guys just because I dont practice the
Parelli way. I was taught by real, experienced,
winning trainers, have worked hard, have good ethics and care about
the health and safety of my horses, how does that equate to being a
bad or abusive trainer. Hey BB, was wondering where you have been?
Missed ya To TB the reference came from the question ' What are the
purpose of
Parelli games', I wont mention who but
if you read you will find that exact quote. redial, thanks for
making me laugh! only you could make such fun out of my silly
question....lol American, I agree, Im not saying that I dont use
MANY different methods catered to the horses needs, I have a
problems with being stereotyped into a group, if I am not a PP
trainer. I still believe that he has taken tried and true methods,
that I also use renamed them, packaged it and claimed it as his.
These methods have been around forever. This is what I have a
problem with. Selling to gullible inexperienced people who think
hes a GOD. Has any of his horses gone on to win a World
championship title??? NO john r....AMEN!!! I dont purposely bash
people who practice PP, If I have then Im sorry. I BASH him! If
something works for kids or non-trainers to make them feel a better
connection with their
Horse by playing games, more
power to them but when I get these horses and there brains are so
fried from repetitive groundwork and owners are following a video
and not taking into consideration the vulnerable mind of some
horses and that all horses are not created equal, when I get them
after the owners can do anything with them anymore , there minds
ruined, these horses are a wreak and almost impossible to re-train,
I have to kick them outside for 6 months just to get a viable mind
to work with. That is practical experience, my experiences. I didnt
spend years in collage, years in internships, years of showing, and
30+ years of experience to have someone watch a few videos go to
some clinics and then profess themselves as NH trainers. If it was
that easy, wow Ive wasted alot of time with the 'old ways' Ya, I
love the beach when I get time....lucky you!!! Its been 90 or
better here for a few days yuk! lol gallop, My experiences are all
been geared to producing
Training and showing
horses, the showing is the copulation of all your hard work, to
prove that you have bred, trained and can prove your work, there is
nothing wrong with that. My experiences have been with Quality
Horse flesh. My mind set and experiences are
different than yours. To me, winning and showing is the final stage
to a well thought out program for a certain horse, dont bash me
just because I take showing as VALUE. yea R along with shopping we
can hit the beaches!!!!! lololol, I wish for waffles, alot
cheaper!!!! gallop, its alright we are just debating, We just have
different experiences thats all, we are coming from 2 totally
different places. no harm no foul I know redial, I wondered about
that myself when she emailed me for the first time!!lololol lov ya
BSB!! Sov7 Thank you so much for that it was truthful, respectful
and I so respect your answers and opinions. I know for sure that
you would be a person that I could come too for advice and that has
the credentials to back up your knowledge. You are awesome.

A Question For People That Show About Parelli?I'm just curious to
know what people that show and train seriously/professionally (I'm
talking people that do hunter/jumpers, AQHA, and anyother type of
breed competition or high level of showing) think of Parelli's
methods. Has anyone trained their high level show
Horse using his methods? I'm just curious because
it seems like everyone that recomends using
Parelli isn't really into showing, and isn't too
familiar/experianced in training, it seems like to me that a lot of
people pick up a
Parelli video, or go to a clinic,
then start calling themself a trainer... Is anyone out there that
is seriously into showing a huge supporter of Parelli? Or do you
feel like it is over hyped? Wasn't intended to be a loaded
question. I'm just curious because I don't know much about
Parelli other than what I have heard from people
at my barn who are are all pretty inexperianced with training, yet
are all avid fans of his... I haven't heard anyone that is serious
about
Training have an opinion on him.

What's The Difference Between
Parelli And Clinton
Anderson?I'm a huge Clint Anderson fan, his methods helped my
Horse to stop being such a snot on the ground, and
when I told my friend about some ground work things I do with my
Horse she's like, 'Oh! So you've trained a
Parelli horse!' I've never heard of
Parelli and last night I saw a question about her
or him... I don't know, about what they thought and 9 out of 10
people spoke negatively about the
Parelli method.
Are Clint and
Parelli similar? I really do love
Clint, but why don't people really like Parelli?

Very Nervous Pony Trained IH/Parelli Methods - Will It Need These
Forever? Possible Competion
Horse In Future?I have
been offered a previously very nervous (although could possibly
revert back once moved here?) pony, in which the only way forwards
with him was Intelligent horsemanship/Parelli methods. It took 2.5
years to progress to having feet pick up without him nervously
quivering, slowly proceeded (lots of lunge work and ground work) to
backing him, and getting up to being able to walk, trot canter in
the school. He won't jump! He's been almost kept in a 'safe
enviroment' and never put in a situation he can't handle. Not been
hacked out, due to lack of time. Never taken to a competition, even
with the others, just for the experience, which is a shame. Am I
silly to think I can work with this pony, with just a calm
approach, to progress to the competition life and in the dressage
arena and be successful? Or is it going to always be a struggle and
disappointment as he just won't like that kind of
enviroment/stress? Current owners say he needs a 1 to 1 and once
he's earned your trust, he will be much better. There is no
nastiness in the pony at all - just fear, either of the known from
previous life, or fear of the unknown.

Do You Think 'Parelli' Is Good For Bonding With Your Horse?Just
curious, I personally don't, I didn't use any
Training methods and I can ride my
Horse and jump him in a halter or bridleless. But
what do you think?

I Am Getting Into Pat Parelli's
Training Methods
Can Someone Help Me Out With Something?I'm reading a book by
Parelli at the moment but I would like to know
about the different levels!! I have the feeling you have to log

I Want To Become A
Horse Trainer? With My Own
Method?I've studied
Parelli Natural Horsemanship
for a long long time (no haters PLEASE), I have tried Monty
Roberts, Clinton Anderson etc etc... Through studying and
training/retraining my horses, I have picked up lots of great
techniques and modified them a bit so that they work just right for
me and my horses, and also made up a few of my own things which
also seem to work on them (and friends horses). I wrote a book type
thing wth all my ideas in it for my cousin who's pony was a
nightmare when she got him, and after a year of going through every
task, she has transformed the pony . She went to her first show
last week, and won two classes! She wouldn't have been able to do
that a year ago. I love love love
Training horses.
I've fully trained three youngsters from scratch, one is now a
successful dressage horse. I retrained my mare who was
'traditionally' backed and broken, and she's doing great. People at
my livery always come to me with questions, and a few have asked me
to help with their horses. One lady who had an OTT race
Horse handed her over to me just after Xmas as a
nervous wreck, I've just given her back and she is so happy with
her transformation. I would never turn any
Horse
down, I love to work with them all. My absolute dream would be to
become like Pat Parelli, to have people following my methods and
seeing the results of them. I'm 16, and still at school, but I have
eleven weeks off to practice everything. How the heck am I going to
go about this? I know I will probably have to wait till I'm 18, but
even then, what do I have to do? Do I need any qualifications? I
don't think
Parelli has any for
Training horses.. Would it be better to take
horses in and retrain them (as I do now, just with no pay haha) or
to go out and teach people how to train their horse.. or both??
anything else? Anyone on here a trainer? Please please please no
parelli/NH haters. I haven't asked for your view on it, just your
view on what I should do. Thanks!!

What Programs Are Out There To Help Me With
Training My Horse?I got him 2 months ago but I've
only been riding for about 6 months. He was very quiet and well
trained when he came first but he is starting to regress so I think
I need to do some ground work or something with him. I just got the
Parelli level 1 program but I find there is a lot
of negativity out there about it, I dont like all the 'hype' and
where I live it's not much used. I want to start taking him to my
riding lessons so dont want to confuse him. I ride English and
there are no schools locally that do training/ground work or even
Horse care training. No-one in my family knows
anything about horses and I dont think there is anyone close by
where I live who does. I like the way
Parelli
Training is structured so I can follow it easily
on my own as I also lack confidence and I tend to be a bit too soft
with him. Is there any alternative programs out there that could
help me? The guy I bought him from uses a combination of Natural
and Traditional methods. My main problem is that I have never seen
anyone
Training a
Horse and am
completely clueless! The seller unfortunately lives 300 miles away
and he does lessons but its not an option for me. Horses are not
really a common hobby in my area, and I'd hate to be giving him
'negative'
Training without knowing it which is
why I'd really prefer some type of 'set program' to start with. I
can always broaden my scope later when I'm more knowledgable about
horses and what I'm doing.
