Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install

Use this procedure to restore to the factory settings and the software that originally came with your computer by using the DVDs that shipped with it.  Refer to How to 'Erase and Install' on MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac Pro computers (Late 2008 and later) for Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard instructions. Important: If you have a MacBook Air, you must have a MacBook Air SuperDrive to complete this procedure.

Using a 27-inch iMac as an external display

With Target Display mode, you can use your 27-inch iMac with Mac OS X as an external display. Connect any computer or other device with a Mini DisplayPort to your 27-inch iMac using a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable or using a converter that converts other electrical, video, and audio protocols from another source device to Mini DisplayPort compliant signals.  (Cables and converters available separately.)

Graphics Firmware Update 1.0: iMac and Mac Pro compatibility with Windows 7

Download and install the Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 if you run Microsoft Windows 7 using Boot Camp on your iMac (with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 or 7600 GT) or Mac Pro (with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT or Quadro FX 4500) computer. Important: Install this update before you install Windows 7 on your computer.

iMac (Late 2009): Using the correct Mac OS X system software

You may notice that iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), and iMac (27-inch, Quad Core, Late 2009) computers sometimes exhibit symptoms that indicate the wrong Mac OS X system software is installed.  These symptoms can include: Graphic anomalies such as visual corruption on startup or corruption that appears to follow the mouse pointer. The computer may report that AirPort or Bluetooth isn't currently available. The Mouse System Preference pane does not display the Magic Mouse or does not utilize some of the functionality that it supports. Brief graphic distortion when powering down the iMac. You may also observe other anomalies which are indicative of having the wrong Mac OS X system software installed on iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), and iMac (27-inch, Quad Core, Late 2009) computers.
